Negahneewin is an Anishnawbe word that means "Leading the Way." Negahneewin College of Academic & Community Development is a college "within and throughout" Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The Negahneewin Council is a group of representatives from various Aboriginal organizations and education and training providers in the region:
- Oshki-Anishnawbeg Student Association (OASA)
- Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre
- Northern Nishnawbe Education Council
- Nishnawbe Aski Nation
- Ontario Metis and Aboriginal Association
- Metis Nation of Ontario
Council also has members at large, people with valuable experience and an interest in Aboriginal education and training. Negahneewin Council is a dynamic group of people committed to working with Confederation College to ensure that it meets the needs of Aboriginal Peoples.
Members of Negahneewin Council are advisors to Negahneewin College Of Academic And Community Development in matters of curriculum design, review, funding, administration and many other issues which arise because of our unique position. We are a liaison between Confederation College and the Aboriginal community. Negahneewin Council provides us with guidance in navigating these waters and helps us to ensure that we are acting with the support of the community. They are our partners in this journey.
